This interactive workshop examines various birth settings and models of care that have historically included/excluded queer birth. Our goal is to help you develop an understanding of (some of) the specific needs of LGBTQ+ folks in the perinatal period and explore tools to provide support as a birth and/or postpartum professional.

Some of the topics included in this session are:

I. Terminologies/language to use when supporting LGBTQ+ Folks in birth and postpartum
II. Intersectionality and the impact of Race, Class, Gender on the experiences of birth and postpartum for LGBTQ+ families
III. Queer Family Planning: Modalities & Costs
IV. The Role of Non-Gestational Parents
V. Experiences of Conception, Birth, Adoption & Postpartum for Queer, Trans and Gender non-conforming Families (First Hand Accounts From Families)
VI. Second-Parent Adoption Laws

In Part I of this workshop, we will begin to address and deconstruct preconceived prejudices when working with a diversity of clients and explore action-steps to take in the path towards allyship & cultural humility when supporting LGBTQ+ in birth and postpartum work.

Audience: This workshop is geared towards care providers who support families in perinatal health (including but not limited to: birth & postpartum doulas, OBGYN's, Acupuncturists, Massage Therapists, Psychologists, Midwives, etc).

Facilitator: This workshop is created by Morgane Richardson, Co-Founder of Woven Bodies

I’m really excited to announce a new version of this workshop: Supporting Queer/Trans Families in Birth + Postpartum!

So what’s new with this session?

  • We’ve gone digital!
The course is ALL ONLINE and LIVE. That means you can access it from the comfort of your own home, no matter where you live or work. If you have kids, they’re welcome to join in the background. If you have a 9 to 5 job, each session is short enough that you can take it during a breakfast or lunch break.

  • It’s 4 weeks long!
The workshop is 4 hours, but it’s spread out over 4 weeks! That means you spend a dedicated amount of time each week on this topic.

  • Readings + Support
When you’re not “in class” you are engaging in the content through articles, books + videos and a private class listserv.

  • Support
All attendees get a 30 minute, one-on-one convo with me to be used to support your business as you wish. I can proofread content, we can brainstorm business ideas/names, we can comb through your website together, etc.
